We are attracted to ruins of monuments not because of some kind of necrophilia, but because of a need to grasp the type of life energy that prompted the people of the past to try to become demi-gods – that is, to try to overcome themselves, their own personal limitedness, and become demiurges of a new reality. It is a paradoxical situation: to inquire into the possibility of the creation of a new form of the human world, we must turn to the past and question those who believed in the possibility so much that they actually tried to make it a reality.
